Gillian Parker began her musical career at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). She obtained a Jazz Performance Certificate before shifting her focus to Classical Voice.
While studying at WAAPA, Gillian demonstrated her skills in diverse environments, from participating in a Jazz group to starring in operas such as “The Marriage of Figaro” alongside the Western Australian Opera Company at His Majesty’s Theatre in Perth, WA. Particularly noteworthy was her portrayal of the crucial character of the Mother Superior in WAAPA's rendition of “Dialogue of the Carmelites”.
After her time at WAAPA, Gillian dedicated herself to sharing her musical talents at various events. She later took a break to focus on her family. However, in 2010, Gillian rekindled her love for vocal arts, shifting her focus to teaching instead of performing. In her pursuit to empower her students with the necessary skills, Gillian found "The Institute for Vocal Advancement" (IVA).
IVA is committed to equipping educators with in-depth expertise in vocal methods to achieve a harmonious, uniform sound in various vocal ranges, dynamics, and genres. The approach prioritizes smooth transitions and precise control, enabling singers to convey emotions seamlessly, eliminating any abrupt changes in tone.
Under Gillian's expert guidance, students see significant progress in their vocal skills. They benefit from improved stamina, smoother vocal transitions, vibrato enhancement, and better vocal quality across various music styles. Gillian's impact extends beyond individual mentoring; she established and directs a thriving community choir. This choir, open to everyone regardless of their audition results, serves as a supportive environment for music enthusiasts to nurture their passion for singing and build lasting community bonds.
